A Conversation with ... Kenneth Gould
The rise of job boards

By Tom Schaffner

Article available online at: http://www.rt-image.com/0521Gould

Kenneth Gould, CEO of RadWorking.com, Denton, Texas, discusses the decade-long success his online career network has experienced and the growth of the Internet job search in radiology.

RT Image: How, if at all, has RadWorking.com changed since it launched in 1997?

Kenneth Gould: We started RadWorking in a garage in 1997 when there was an obvious need for an online career network for the growing field of radiology. It began as a free site and gradually transitioned into a paid service for employers and recruiters. The site is still free for candidates. Since its launch, RadWorking.com has changed in two major ways: technology and traffic.

Ten years is a lifetime where computers and technology are concerned. We rely on the feedback of our visitors to recommend enhancements. Over the years, the suggestions have helped us design a user-friendly and sophisticated job board that is efficient for job-seekers and employers alike.

Traffic to RadWorking.com grows every year due to our technology and the number of candidates and employers relying on the Internet as an employment resource. In 2006, RadWorking.com received more than 1.3 million visitors and is on track with a 20 percent increase for 2007.

RT: How have you seen the need for job boards grow over the past few years?

Gould: It is commonly stated that 71 percent of all job-seekers will find their next job on the Internet. Today's savvy candidates have learned that niche boards provide the best job offerings for their specific field of interest. Skilled employers and recruiters know that they absolutely must use online job boards to reach the right people for their openings.

RT: Your site caters to not only job-seekers and employers, but also to recruiters. How can each benefit from your service?

Gould: Job-seekers come to us because we offer the largest resource of radiology employment opportunities for physicians and allied health professionals. At RadWorking.com, we find hundreds of current jobs from top employers and agencies across the nation. Our services are always free to job-seekers, who have the option of creating a profile and uploading their CV/resume to be contacted by employers, or searching, all with the assurance of confidentiality.

Employers benefit from our sheer quantity of job-seekers. Employers can be sure to find candidates with profiles no older than 120 days and with all levels of experience. RadWorking.com attracts more than 135,000 visitors each month, guaranteeing employers the exposure they need. One client recently told us that RadWorking is "...by far, the easiest and most user-friendly of all the Web sites I use to post jobs."

Recruiters benefit from the flexible posting options available on RadWorking.com. We understand that there are different levels of employment needs and try to accommodate a client's need by providing membership plans with interchangeable job offerings and access to the RadWorking.com database of qualified candidates.

Whether it's a hiring manager working in a small community hospital or a recruiting team in a major staffing firm, each can post jobs and access the candidate database on a level playing field. The variety of services range from one job to a membership with unlimited job postings.

RT: How do you guarantee the most current radiology job-related traffic available on your site?

Gould: RadWorking.com is strictly a job board. We focus solely on jobs with none of the fanfare of portal content. Job postings are carefully monitored and removed after 60 days, unless they are updated by the posting company.

RT: What do you attribute to your site's usage growing by more than 65 percent in the last two years?

Gould: RadWorking.com utilizes successful marketing practices to generate the most current radiology job-related traffic. Many visitors come from our high ranking on leading search engines, including Google, Yahoo and MSN. Print advertising in national industry publications, annual attendance at trade shows and other proprietary techniques bring employers and recruiters a strong audience of job-seekers. Our marketing initiatives constantly encourage new visitors to the site and keep them coming back.

No single factor can explain our growth over the past few years, but I must point out that we have an outstanding staff that is dedicated to customers and candidates every single day. It's a privilege to work with such talented and dedicated people. The bottom line is that our people are the reason for our success.

RT: In which modalities do you see the most potential for job-seekers?

Gould: It's no surprise that CT, MRI, vascular and special procedures will continue to offer additional career advancement for technologists. We have also seen an increase in the area of cardiovascular imaging.

RT: Any other comments?

Gould: A high standard of customer service has always been an important part of our company standards. We continually strive to make our site user-friendly and adjust our services to meet the needs of candidates, employers and recruiters. The challenging radiology job market demands the innovation we provide at RadWorking.com.
