About Interventional Radiology Jobs
Interventional radiology (IR) is a subspecialty of medical imaging that specializes in minimally invasive procedures with the use of fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, and ultrasound. Some procedures are for diagnostic purposes like angiograms, while others are done for treatment such as angioplasties.
The use of needles or catheters are used when performing procedures such as biopsies, draining fluids, inserting catheters, or dilating or stenting narrowed ducts or vessels.(Source: radiologyinfo.com and Wikipedia)
This is an opportunity to join four vascular surgeons that have been together for nearly 25 years. The reason for their search is the fact that the two radiologists that have been a part of their group for several years have retired. One recently had an illness forcing his retirement and the other decided to move his retirement up from July 2008 to December of 2007. So, these are unexpected circumstances and puts the group in an urgent search mode to find a full-time replacement for their loss. You can expect 80-85% of your time doing all vascular interventional imagineable: stents, angioplasties, uterine fibroid embolizations, PICC lines, all various modality-guided biopsies, etc. and get to work in a 250-bed fairly new hospital that is less than five years old. They do however, need a BC radiologist that can do other modalities as well because you will be taking 1:7 general radiology call with the radiology group, but be a partner (after a short year) in the vascular surgery group. This will allow someone to keep all of their general radiology skills sharp, but know that nearly or all of your day will be spent in the angio suite. Some of their physical equipment includes 2 Philips fully digital imaging suites with 15" imaging intensifiers and digital subtraction. Support technologies include angiojet, rinspirator, rotoblader, silverhawk peripheral arthrectomy systemand cyroplasty baloon system. All daytime interventions are scheduled and you can expect 8-10 cases a day and 2-4 diagnostic reads per day. Hopsital is providing a sign-on bonus relocation expenses as well as marketing expenses. Their need is ASAP and, though they may consider summer of 2008 canidates, anyone that has a Florida license and can start sooner is preferred. 75% of a partner's bonus in first year after expenses. Very fair group and a great opportunity to be in a great climate doing what you like to do clinically. You can also feel free to talk to the retiring doc as well as administration, community folks and it is a great place to raise a family or just come to finish out your career. Vacation, CME, and starting salary all open to negotiation and somewhat depending on training and experience. Call or forward CV to gatewaydocs@earthlink.net for further information.
