Applicants must be US citizens, have an M.D. or D.O. degree, and possess American Board Certification in Radiology. Candidates should have demonstrated administrative and leadership experience (ideally as Service Chief or Department Chair), and possess the necessary research and educational accomplishments to qualify for an academic appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level at our physically adjacent affiliate, Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSU-SOM).
The Radiology Service is a large, diagnostic imaging service with state-of-the-art digital equipment, equipped with PACS and a voice recognition system, multiple digital diagnostic rooms, two CT scanners, 2 MRI scanners, Ultrasound suite, Angiography/Interventional suite, and several nuclear medicine cameras. Interpretation of diagnostic images in the following modalities is required: General Radiology, CAT scan, Ultrasound, MRI, and Nuclear Medicine. Performance of basic interventional procedures, such as CT/US-guided biopsies and drainages, is also required. In addition to interpretation of digital images, it is strongly preferred that prospective applicants be able to perform interventional procedures such as biliary drainage, nephrostomy, angiography, angioplasty, arterial stent placement, thrombolysis, abscess drainage, and filter placement. This is a supervisory position.
The candidate should be an inspiring and effective role model, innovative thinker, customer-service focused, and have proven clinical excellence, with exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. The ability to motivate, develop, and monitor medical staff as part of multidisciplinary teams to achieve quality outcomes, optimize utilization of resources, and maximize efficiency to meet required performance measures is essential. The Detroit VAMC is a teaching facility with an active role in the training of WSU-SOM residents and medical students and provides them with a solid understanding in radiology and nuclear medicine.
This VAMC is a newly-constructed, state-of-the-art 108 bed tertiary care medical, surgical, and psychiatric facility with an 84 bed nursing home care unit, a 50 bed off-site Domiciliary, and two community-based outpatient clinics.
