About Nuclear Medicine Jobs
Nuclear medicine is a subspecialty of radiology. Examinations are made from images of the body and its functions. The images are developed based on the detection of emitted energy from a radioactive material given to patients. It can be given either by injecting it directly into a vein or be given by mouth. For the most part, the amount of radiation to a patient is similar to that of a standard x-ray test.
Generally it takes 20 to 45 minutes to complete the scan. Depending on the type of scan it could be done immediately after the radiopharmaceutical agent is given, a few hours later, or even several days after the injection.(Source: radiologyinfo.com)
This 26-person, Southern California practice, is recruiting two additional sub-specialty radiologists: a pediatric radiologist and a nuclear radiologist!
Although the practice covers eight hospitals and one imaging center, they strategically focus radiologists at two hospitals predominately, where you would work on a daily basis and be responsible for call. There is flexibility in which two hospitals you cover, based on your skill sets, any possible interest in teaching you may have, as well as the location of your home. The group also covers an outpatient imaging center, which has a 64-slice CT, 1.5 Tesla MRI, Digital Mammography and state-of-the-art Ultrasound.
In addition to your subspecialty area, you can expect to read most modalities in this practice: MR, CT, US, Nuc Med, mammo, basic IR, etc… Equipment is mostly state-of-the-art, including a 64 slice scanner, PACS and voice recognition.
General call is shared equally, roughly 13 weeks per year (1:4). It is backup to the nighthawk service starting at 10pm.
This is a one-year partnership track opportunity!
Benefits include: malpractice; health/dental insurance; six weeks vacation the first year, ten as a partner; CME expense account, moving expenses, retirement and pension plans, etc...
