In 2009, numerous academic programs have been reducing budgets and costs, and many are cutting salaries.
But not here! The Department of Radiology at this New England facility is recruiting additional full-time radiologists in the following areas: Body Imaging, Neuroradiology, Emergency Radiology and Breast Imaging, at the assistant, associate or full professor, bringing the division to nine imagers. The successful candidates will participate in the clinical and educational programs of their comprehensive division. The Medical Center is comprised of two campuses in close proximity to each other, and totaling over 700 beds. Additionally, there is a third tower being constructed on one of the campuses.
The medical center instituted a five year plan a couple of years ago to replace all imaging equipment. Technology includes PACS/RIS/VR, PET/CT, a dedicated neurointerventional suite, five MDCT scanners including a 64 and a 40 slice units; four 1.5 T MR systems, direct digital radiography, digital mammography and breast MRI. The department enjoys an organ-based division of radiology staff and clinical services. There is also strong secretarial and administrative support staff, and a dedicated modern department conference room with an adjacent full-service library. Additionally, there is a new inpatient radiology department that was completed fall 2008.
Research and publishing are not required, but for those with an interest, the department has a $6,000,000 annual research budget with $4,000,000 NIH. There are collaborative research partnerships with the Polytechnical Institute and Phillips Medical Systems. There are six separate basic science research programs including PET/Spect, molecular imaging, digitial imaging, fMR and stroke. There is approximately 6,000 square feet of research space. Technology includes 3T MR, animal angio suite, hyperpolarized gas, small bore MR animal imaging.
The residency program has a strong ABR pass rate, and consists of 16 residents. There is initiative underway to increase that to 20 residents over the next few years.
You will have a full appointment at the Medical School with rank and compensation commensurate with experience. Academic responsibilities will include teaching of medical students, as well as supervising and teaching the residents and fellows.
