Ultrasound Technologist (Perinatal) #2047, Northern Virginia

Prepare patients for and perform obstetrical ultrasound exams in accordance with physicians' orders. Prepare films and exam/results in a timely, accurate manner to facilitate diagnosis and ensure quality patient care. This position must demonstrate a commitment of quality service to our patience, the public and our co-workers.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform specialized obstetric, fetal and gynecologic diagnostic ultrasound examinations in order to detect fetal anomalies, evaluate fetal anatomy and detect gynecologic anomalies. Assist physician in performance of invasive diagnostic surgical procedures. Provide patient support and education during ultrasound exam. Perform fetal monitoring (fetal well-being) tests on indicated patients.
Following the established AIUM and ACOG guidelines for ultrasound, perform and document the appropriate images for the study indicated in order to provide the physician with comprehensive views to give an accurate interpretive report. Facilitate lines of communication between the patient and the physician.
Ultrasonographer is responsible for the care of ultrasound equipment. Works with the Biomedical Services Department and other technical support personnel to insure equipment functions properly.
Maintain continuing medical education credits by attending ultrasound seminars each year. Maintain an active status in American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Society and the Central Virginia Diagnostic Medical Society. Stay current with OB/GYN literature by reading professional journals and books.
Order medical supplies from appropriate vendors in order to maintain a sufficient inventory of medical supplies.
Provide consultation to Registrar in scheduling patient and accommodating non-routine referrals. Communicate effectively with patients and their families in difficult and anxious settings and provide appropriate patient care.
Job Requirements:
ARDMS; prefer Obstetric RDMS Registered.
Experience in the area of OB/GYN ultrasound with a minimum of five (5) Years Experience in a High-Risk OB/GYN environment.
In-depth knowledge of physiology and anatomy, both female and fetal.
Skill in operating Acuson Ultrasound Machine and Fetal Monitoring Equipment.
Skill in identifying and recording ultrasound images for a particular study to insure a complete and thorough exam.
