The Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab is responsible for the administrative and clinical coordination of the lab. The Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of the department, the quality of tests and procedures. The director obtains maintenance service on equipment, performs quality assurance functions, trains staff, maintains policies and procedures that provide positive patient outcomes. The incumbent is responsible for the capital and operational budget of the department. The Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab builds strong and collaborative relationships with physicians and hospital colleagues. He or she facilitates the growth and profitability of the lab.

1. Participates in the interview, selection, recruitment, hiring, and training of employees in assigned area and directs effort at maintaining staff and minimizing staff turnover.
- Directs staff in the clinical application of the Cardiac Cath Lab through education and role modeling as evidenced by documentation and observation. Integrates appropriate new imaging trends into practice. Engages in annual licensure validation for unit employees as evidenced by documentation.
- Plans and participates in the clinical and leadership development of employees in assigned area: maintains accurate records, evaluates staff, and prepares disciplinary actions.
- Plans for staffing needs on a long and short-term basis, and adjusts these appropriately according to departmental classification mechanisms to maintain safe, effective care a cost efficient manner as evidenced by audit.

2. Demonstrates awareness of hospital and departmental policies, participates in their development and uses these as a basis for decision making for both clinical and management issues. Demonstrates awareness of, and adherence to safety and legal requirements established at the hospital and department level with emphasis on those pertinent to specialty area.

3. May perform Electrophysiology functions related to Cardiac Cath Lab procedures for patients as needed.

4. May perform functions related to general Cardiac Cath Lab procedures for patients.
- Obtains patient history and other related documentation within specified guidelines.
- Operates equipment within specifications as demonstrated by observation and audit.
- Educates patient and others regarding procedures and related information as demonstrated by documentation and feedback.

5. Responsible for Radiation Safety Program under the guidance of the Radiation Safety Officer.
- Dosimetry monitoring, in servicing staff, and supervision of Radiation Physicist.

Specialized education or Associates Degree and four to six (4 – 6) years experience as a Cath Lab Radiological Technologist, Registered Nurse, or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist including two to three (2 – 3) years in a Management position in the related fields of diagnostic imaging or Cardiac Cath Lab.

1. Current AZ license through MRTBE, or 2. Verified current Arizona or other compact state Registered Nurse license and 3. Current BCLS

In addition, Non RNs must have 1. ARRT, or 2. RCIS, or 3. RCES
