About Radiology Jobs

According to the AMA, only 1.2% of physicians specialize in radiology (compare that with 16.7% of physicians that practice the specialty of internal medicine). The radiologist is unlike other physicians because diagnoses and interpretations are made from medical images. Images are taken in a variety of ways by using x-rays or with radioactive substances. Some images are produced by sound waves or the body's innate magnetism. Along with the medical image findings, a radiologist correlates them with other tests, and makes recommendations for additional examinations or treatments.(Source: radiologyinfo.com)

MSK

A group of eight radiologists, 7 FT and 1 PT are seeking a Musculoskeletal radiologist to join the practice in 2010. They cover one 300+ bed community hospital, a full-modality hospital-owned imaging center, a family practice clinic and a state of the art cancer center with PET/CT. They are performing approximately 160K procedures annually. The hospital is planning a mulit-million dollar expansion that will impact and expand Othopedic services.

You can expect to spend at least 50% of your time in the specialty with the balance in diagnostic radiology including Mammo and PET. PACS is fully implemented and they use Speech Q Voice Recognition. The department currently has (2) 4-slice CT scanners and are in negotiations to add (2) 16-slice scanners and (1) 64-slice scanner. They also have the only 3T magnet in the area. Basic IR procedures are required.

Call is shared equally at 1:7 (one of the radiologists is an employee and does not take call). Nighthawk is in place and picks up from 6pm-7am, Monday - Friday, 3pm-7am on Saturdays and noon- 7 am on Sundays. The day after call is scheduled 1/2 day.

Initial income is $450K with one year to partner if fellowship trained and 18 months to partner if not. Partners are earning close to $600K.

Benefits include: malpractice, full family medical, dental, vision and orthodontia coverage, 10 weeks vacation, 401K and profit sharing, a $5000 CME stipend and a $10K relocation package.
