Unique Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Opportunity
Subspecialties: Ultrasound/Sonography & Emergency Imaging

The Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship is a one-year program and is the first of its kind in New Jersey. The fellowship provides training in the clinical practice of emergency medicine designed to develop expertise in a wide spectrum of emergency and non-emergency problems, including protocols ranging from trauma evaluations to ultrasound-guided procedures. Fellows work clinical shifts as attendings in addition to dedicated scan shifts. Fellows will also be trained to teach ultrasound to residents and medical students. The goal of this program is to produce experts in point of care ultrasound and provide a foundation to pursue administrative and/or academic goals. Through this program, fellows will have the opportunity to attend national conferences, conduct research projects, attend courses to strengthen both their ultrasound and teaching skills, and the chance to form their own niche.

Facility Information
Morristown Medical Center, part of Atlantic Health System, is nationally known for exceptional medical education programming. A non-profit 762 licensed-bed hospital, Morristown Medical has evolved from a community hospital into a regional referral center with the largest cardiac program in the state, a busy neonatal center, a helicopter landing pad on the roof, a designated stroke center, and a rapidly growing trauma program. Emergency medicine residents, fellows, and medical students work with experienced health care professionals representing every major specialty and subspecialty.

Our department of emergency medicine is staffed by 30 full-time faculty members, all of whom are board-certified or board-eligible in emergency medicine. Our 80-bed, 45,000 square feet facility features patient care areas, trauma facilities, and fast-track unit. Newly renovated 4,000 square feet office suite features department offices, conference space, residents lounge, on call room, and chiefs office. We see +90,000 patients a year; 25.4% of which are pediatric patients; our admit rate is approximately 26.1% patients. The ED is fully staffed with capable support personnel allowing the emergency medicine resident to spend their time providing direct patient care. The emergency medicine attending delegates patient care to residents in accordance with their level of training, however every patient is also seen by the attending. During their Trauma rotation senior emergency medicine residents are responsible for managing major traumas three times a week.
