About Teleradiology Jobs
Due to rapid technology advancement and improvements in electronic transmission of medical images, Teleradiology has emerged as a viable and cost effective alternative for many hospitals and clinics needing coverage for medical imaging.
Teleradiology transmits radiological images, such as x-rays, CTs, and MRIs, from one location to another for the purposes of interpretation and/or consultation. Digital images are transmitted over a distance using standard telephone lines, satellite connections, or local area networks (LANs). Teleradiology also is beginning to include the process of interfacing with the HIS/RIS systems in the transporting of digital images.(Source: filmdigitizer.com)
Practice Data (duties, equipment, hospital data, story, etc.): This 30+ member group is actually recruiting three radiologists, two for a hospital they will be taking over in April 2010 and one for another hospital they began covering a couple of years ago. The group itself is based in and around Albany, NY but these needs are all south of Albany and one is a bit closer to NYC.
The group has been in existence for 30+ years and has an incredible reputation for providing the best service in the region. That is a lot of why more work and offers to take over radiology contracts keep coming their way from reputable hospital systems. Not surprisingly then, the group’s primary concern relative to skills will be the ability to handle as many forms of general MR and CT as possible. And any extra or more sub specialized imaging skills would be a big help. You should realize though that this is once again a general practice overall, and you will be expected to play an active role in all aspects of their duties. In this case the group will likely be able to do without basic angio skills. However, basic interventional skills like biopsies and drainages, would be very helpful since only two on-site people will be covering the hospital the hospital they will be taking over in April (as well as a half-time person via PACS remotely). Mammo is definitely a pre-requisite as is US, plain films, fluoro, etc. The group has expanded in the last eight years from covering 5-6 hospitals for many years to now being up to 10 when they take over this hospital next year, which is a testament to their service orientation and stability in that area of upstate New York. This is in no way a start up practice. As a result, the group has excellent relations with all of the various medical and administrative staffs and they work very closely together. So, in bringing in a new person to the group it is imperative that any candidate have an extremely strong service mentality, a very strong sense of professionalism, and for lack of a better term a team player.
General Group Info This group has been in place for well over 35 years now. Even a cursory investigation would show that the practice has an excellent track record in the region both for their clinical skills and their business ethics. The group is also one that was built by radiologists for radiologists. That means if you want to be more than just a film reader there are a ton of opportunities for you to be involved in the overall leadership of the group. In fact, the practice would love to bring on someone with extra skills in business development, computer systems, administration, or any of the multitudes of skills and abilities required to run a practice of this size.
Having placed a number of folks with this group over several years we can definitely vouch for their ethics and standards. This is an excellent opportunity to put down long term roots in the Northeastern U.S. and be close to so many of the region's attractions.
