Practice Info

Reason for this eight-member group's search is related to having more volume than they can currently keep up with comfortably along with a partner having cut back to 3/4-time in January. However, he will continue taking call. No real during-the-week call as nighthawk covers the department 10 pm-7 am and they rotate an evening shift amongst everyone equally, which is 3-10 pm every 9th weekday. Ideal candidate would bring fellowship training in body imaging or equivalent (cross-sectional, abdominal imaging, etc) or an MRI fellowship. Expect a fair amount of your clinical time doing body imaging related imaging, but it is a general group overall and ideally someone would also bring mammo and basic/minor IR abilities.

They have basically let go of any sort of high-level IR service like they had in the past. They have lost two IR docs in the last couple of years and another long-time IR partner retired two years ago. So, all they do now invasively as a group are very basic procedures: biopsies, drainages, para/thora, LPs, nephrostomy tubes, etc. and no vascular work. As a result they have to have a backup rotating IR call pool that you do get paid extra for both during the week and on the weekends as well as a late start day if you were called in. Three or four docs do no procedures, so if someone were willing to help out in that arena it would make five in that backup IR call pool. Carrying the IR beeper for the weekend pays an extra $500/day and also additional money/income for any procedure you’d have to come in to perform. Weekend general call is covered by two different docs every weekend and at least one doc has to be in the hospital 13 hrs of the weekend day (8 am-9pm), to be split however the two docs want to do it. It is a level II trauma center but manageable weekends overall. Another positive and unique aspect to this opportunity is they’re only asking for one year of service to become a partner. They’re fairly busy with 160K annual exams but great equipment in the radiology department as well as excellent support staff and PAs that peform some of the basic IR procedures during the week (para/toracentesis). No A/R buy-in, just a nominal $20K buy-in after year one making this an attractive option for current fellows and practicing radiologists alike. Equal vacation from the get-go which is either 10 or 11 weeks. Great benefits package including malpractice, health insurance for you and your family, disability, an annual pension contribution after year one as well as a $10K moving allowance. Their annual CME allowance is fairly generous as well at $10K.

They cover a single 325-bed hospital and a hospital-owned imaging center. It is definitely small-town living, but it’s gorgeous country so close to many Atlantic Coast attractions. Schools are solid and it’s a great place to raise a family. The group members get along very well, so cohesiveness has always been one of their hallmarks. Someone with an easy-going personality that fits the description of team player will fit the group's needs best. Ideally they’d like for someone to start by July, but could easily put someone to work later this spring if someone could start practicing sooner. This is an area in general that seems to promote stability and people putting down roots to stay for the long term and that is what they are seeking; a long-term partner. Ideally, they want a fellowship-trained person, body imaging or MRI equivalent but wouldn't be opposed to considering the right experienced radiologist that doesn't possess fellowship training. They also need someone willing to do mammography, so they are indeed seeking a very well-rounded generalist. The IR abilities and willingness to take backup IR call are negotiable as they don't want to lose an otherwise great candidate for those preferences. But the ideal candidate is someone comfortable with mammography/women's imaging and very basic IR procedures.

Community:An utterly gorgeous part of the country in the Mountains. Community is fairly small, but they have all modern conveniences, good places to eat, shopping, etc.Loads of outdoors things to do including boating (several lakes in the area), water skiing, hiking in the mountains, hunting, fishing, golf, etc.The public schools are solid, but there are private school options available as well. It is a well-employed community with less than 7% unemployment and a fairly good payer mix. The people are as nice as they can be and it's the kind of area that you can settle into with ease. There is a regional airport that serves the area and the cost of living is very low compared with metro areas. As well, no state income tax in Tennessee. You’re close to VA/NC and just a few hour car ride from Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and other Atlantic Coastal cities. Your nearest larger city will be Knoxville, TN or Asheville, NC.This is an excellent place to raise a family and an envious place to be if you appreciate beautiful scenery and southern hospitality.
