100% IR in a private practice group, 1:3 call
Subspecialty: Interventional Radiology

A large Level One Trauma Center in metro Tennessee is seeking to bring on a dedicated interventional radiologist to join the one they have on staff and enjoy a 1:3 IR call only schedule and very flexible daily/weekly schedule as well. The private, multi-specialty physician group that covers the only Level One trauma center within a 150-mile radius is who you’d work for and be paid by. This is an employed position with a competitive starting salary, excellent benefits and potential future production incentives to reward your building of the IR service.

This position offers 100% IR in a private practice setting, which is fairly rare these days to find an opportunity to steer clear of diagnostic work altogether. But this one indeed does offer that exact setting. The anesthesia chairman is looking to work with the IR docs to develop a pain management service, so there is a great foundation for a qualified candidate to help the existing IR doc continue building many aspects of an IR service. Interventional cardiologists do no peripheral interventional procedures and there are lots of studies and procedures that can be ordered once a second IR doc is on staff.

They don’t do open hearts, so that is admittedly some exciting IR work that the candidate wouldn’t have available and there is little to no intervetional oncology, but it being a level one trauma center they have a lot of great cases and plenty of other IR work to build upon. As mentioned, this would be an employed position and the compensation is favorable. They’re talking about a minimum guarantee year one with some business building incentives in the second and third years that could get a candidate to the higher levels of private practice-level of income. They also have a solid benefits package on top of the salary as well as a generous moving allowance.

The breadth and scope of cases that could be developed would depend somewhat on how closely someone would want to work with the vascular surgeons. But embolizations, angioplasties, all types of stents, liver biopsies, IVC filters, vein ablation, venous access catheters, para/thora, TIPS, UFE, UAE, and all trauma-related IR along with developing a pain service are awaiting the right IR-trained doc. They have two angio suites/rooms and a dedicated cath lab for the cardiologists and overall the physical plant is solid.

With this opportunity you can experience an excellent lifestyle and work environment in a nice, growing metro area. There is easy access to three large lakes, sports, opera, museums, and other cultural amenities. There is a historic housing district with over 500 homes and any type of housing you desire within an easy commute of the university as well as nice suburban areas. Some of the area schools are highly ranked in the country, with several prestigious private schools available here. There are churches of every denomination and every type of restaurant you could imagine. The city is the home to several Fortune 500 companies and is a good place to raise a family. There is an international airport that gives you easy access to most parts of the country with non-stop flights and the airport itself is an easy drive from anywhere in the city.

Ideal start date is this coming summer, but they can potentially wait for the right candidate.
