POSITION SUMMARY

Columbus Radiology Corporation is seeking a motivated and experienced Interventional Radiology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for our hospitals in Cincinnati, OH.

The Interventional Radiology Physician Extender (PE) works in collaboration with the Interventional Radiologists to provide comprehensive care for their patients. The Physician Extender (PE) is responsible for the following tasks: patient evaluation, completing history and physical exams, ordering diagnostic studies, interpreting test results, performing radiological procedures under imaging guidance (see list below), providing oral and written communication with referring physicians and other clinical staff, developing and implementing patient treatment plans all under the guidelines set forth in the Standard Care Arrangement or Supervisory Agreement. The Physician Extender (PE) will also be expected to write prescriptions for patients under the guidelines set forth in the Standard Care Arrangement or Supervisory Agreement. As a clinical leader for the Interventional Radiology program, the Physician Extender (PE) is involved in process improvement projects and is an educational resource for patients, families, and staff.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform initial examinations and patient assessments, including, but not limited to history and physical on outpatients and inpatient consults for interventional services
  • Perform procedures as assigned and requested by the attending Interventional Radiologist, including pre and post procedure orders, informed consent, and documentation of procedure notes and report
  • Understand the indications, alternatives, risks and steps of interventional procedures in order to provide this information to patients, family members, referring physicians, physician offices and other healthcare providers when relaying recommendations from the guidance of the interventional radiologist
  • Serving as a liaison between the patient and the nursing staff and referring physician
  • Performing daily rounds and communicating patient progress to the medical staff and the radiologist including writing daily progress notes when appropriate
  • Screen and evaluate new procedure requests/referrals with interventional physicians
  • Orchestrating patient discharge and making additional referrals for home care, as well as performing follow-up outpatient visits and/or call on patients as needed
  • Assist the interventional physicians in a fluoroscopic procedure, as needed
  • Train, learn, and assist during IR procedures performed with the Interventional Radiologists
  • Writing prescriptions when appropriate
  • Helping with process and quality improvement
DESIRED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Placement, evaluation and removal of tunneled and non-tunneled lines (including PICC lines and temporary hemodialysis catheters)
  • Thoracentesis
  • Paracentesis
  • Simple US or CT guided abscess drains including chest tubes
  • Drain removals and drain evaluation through drain injection
  • Biopsies (including liver, thyroid, bone marrow and superficial structures)
  • Spinal Procedures (including lumbar punctures and myelograms)
  • Venograms
  • Tube changes
  • Arthrograms
DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Current license and certificate of authority to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of Ohio required
  • Must be a graduate of a Nurse Practitioner program or completion of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved program recognized by the Ohio Board of Nursing. Must be certified as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • Experience in acute care and procedural care preferred
  • BLS certification required, ACLS certification desired
  • Full prescriptive authority, including controlled substances preferred
  • Interventional Radiology or comparable invasive procedure experience preferred
  • Experience in Epic electronic health system preferred
