ABOUT THE COMMUNITY

Scranton is located in Northeast Pennsylvania, about 100 miles north of Philadelphia and 100 miles west of New York City. Here you will find a place with an amazing history, a vibrant arts scene, outdoor adventures, and a wide variety of delicious ethnic cuisine. Residents here enjoy low cost of living, low crime rates and affordable housing. High quality of life and superior educational and healthcare systems also make this a great place to live and work.

The Scranton-WilkesBarre-Hazleton area has consistently ranked as one of the safest areas in the country. On average, the cost of living in Northeast Pennsylvania is about 5% lower than the rest of the country. Homes are distinctive and reflect a region whose history goes back to the 17th Century. The most popular homes styles are Colonial, Victorian, Cape Cod and Early Republic styles. Dozens of top universities are located in Pennsylvania, including: University of Pennsylvania (Ivy League), Carnegie Mellon, Lehigh, Villanova, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania State, Drexel, Temple, Duquesne, and Thomas Jefferson University.

With the perfect combination of city entertainment and country recreation, northeast Pennsylvania provides four seasons of family fun. As the ice thaws in Spring, this region explodes into full bloom. Breathe in the fresh air and witness nature’s reemergence in parks and on trails. As the temperatures rise, so does the excitement in Summer. You can beat the heat by going underground into a real coal mine, splash around at a waterpark, or enjoy an outdoor concert under the stars. As Autumn arrives, this region becomes a cornucopia of color. Visit one of many “pick your own” pumpkin patches, brave a haunted attraction for Halloween fun, or ride an ATV through mountain trails. Peak season for autumn leaf peeping is mid- to late-October. As the weather turns colder, hit the slopes at Montage Mountain resorts, explore trails on snowmobile, or enjoy any of your favorite snow sports. Warm up by the fire with a hot beverage in this family-friendly winter destination.
