Alameda Health Medical Group (AHMG), the Physician organization for Alameda Health System (AHS) is recruiting for the position of Chair of Radiology. AHS is a major safety-net public health system and medical training institution based in Oakland, CA. The system has more than 4,500 employees and 1,100 physicians and comprises three general acute hospitals including Highland Hospital, an acute rehabilitation center, two skilled nursing facilities, an inpatient psychiatric facility, and four community wellness centers. JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Chair of Radiology is the clinical and strategic leader of the Department and ensures the delivery of timely, equitable, safe and high-value care to our patients. The Chair oversees the radiologists and department personnel and is accountable for all clinical and operational processes and outcomes within the department.

Together with their operational partners, the Chair is responsible for meeting all goals that are in service to Alameda Health System’s patients and mission. The Chair reports to the Chief Medical Officer of AHS or their designee.

  • Full-time clinical position with protected administrative time
  • Approximately 40% Clinical / 60% Administrative duties
  • Weekday Schedule Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm
  • Weekend/Holiday call from 8am to 5pm

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves as an internal and external champion and role model for AHS. Promotes an unwavering commitment to high quality care, excellent patient experience, and support of all staff across the department.

  1. Maintains an awareness of daily operations of relevant clinical areas.

  1. Creates and fosters a culture of safety and equity through effective and clear communication, escalation strategies, equity benchmarks and applying Just Culture principles.

  1. Supports members of the Department of Radiology in professional development, including advancing clinical skills and research efforts.

  1. Ensures quality patient care services by maintaining and developing programs that are compliant with established county, state, and federally mandated policies and procedures, including licensing and accreditation programs.

  1. Exercises responsibility for departmental medical staff duties including, but not limited to, making recommendations for the granting of Medical Staff privileges, and the appointment and reappointment of Medical Staff, as set forth in the regulations including, but not limited to, Joint Commission standards; e.g. OPPE, FPPE, and yearly staff evaluations.

  1. Provides or designates daily oversight of clinical initiatives, including those related to equity, patient throughput, patient safety and patient experience in ambulatory and inpatient environments.

  1. Participates in health-system initiatives related to development and implementation of appropriate utilization of medical services and clinical documentation standards.

  1. Collaborates with AHS leadership in the development and strategic planning of clinical service lines within the Department.

  1. Other responsibilities as assigned by the CMO or their designee.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

  1. Acts affirmatively to promote the best interests of AHS patients and AHS.

  1. Provides clear communication and transparency in collaborating with colleagues within and outside the Department and with members of the executive team.

  1. Provides leadership skills that focus on listening, supporting, and mentoring members of the Department, while fostering accountability and productivity.

  1. Demonstrates commitment and skills necessary to advocate for marginalized communities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A current, valid, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in accordance with the laws of the State of California.

  1. Valid DEA registration; status as a provider in good standing in the Medicare and Medicaid programs; American Board certification in their specialty; and good standing with the health care facility’s Medical Staff with appropriate privileges granted in accordance with the Medical Staff bylaws.

  1. Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience, such as a Division Chief, Chair of a department or Program Director and a proven commitment to caring for underserved communities.
